Mia Vahlberg is a shareholder at GableGotwals. She is an experienced commercial litigator with a proven track record and has litigated a wide variety of issues, with a particular focus on disputes related to oil and gas exploration and marketing, class actions, insurance coverage, minority shareholders, and trusts/estates. With insightful and often unique approaches, Mia has successfully defended multi-million dollar cases.
The law is Mia’s second career. Her first was in natural gas marketing— initially working for a major oil company, then co-founding one of the first companies to sell natural gas direct to end-users. In addition, she has been active in the bar and the Tulsa community. She currently serves on the board of the Tulsa Metropolitan YMCA.
Representative Experience:
- Defense of oil and gas producer against breach of contract claims exceeding $5 million by former geologist. Mia obtained complete summary judgment for her client.
- Defense of oil and gas producer in fraud claim arising out of sale of producing property. She obtained complete summary judgment for her client. The trial court’s order was affirmed on appeal.
- Defense of natural gas processor in gas purchase contract dispute. Again, Mia was able to obtain not only a favorable summary judgment ruling on a complex breach of contract claim, but also obtained reimbursement of 100% of her fees.
- Defense of oil and gas royalty class actions.
- Defense of wind energy facility in injunction action, which was denied after bench trial.
- Successful breach of contract counterclaim and defense of employee in action alleging misappropriation of trade secrets. Mia obtained summary judgment and an award of attorney’s fees for her client.
- Defense of directors and officers in minority shareholder/derivative action. After summary judgment motion filed, case settled favorably.
- Defense of property/casualty/life insurers in numerous cases alleging bad faith.
