Rob Robertson is a shareholder at GableGotwals and has managed an active business and commercial litigation practice across the state for more than 35 years. His clients include energy companies, financial institutions, commercial real estate firms, agricultural producers, tech companies, and a variety of other large and mid-sized businesses.
Rob’s practice primarily consists of complex litigation and trial work before Oklahoma federal and state courts and administrative agencies. Rob regularly litigates disputes involving energy and mining industry clients in lease and royalty disputes, class actions, contract disputes, business torts, and environmental and property damage claims. He has substantial experience in litigation of contract disputes arising from energy industry agreements, such as acquisition and divestiture agreements, joint operating agreements, drilling and service agreements, and midstream contracts. For most of his career, Rob has had an active practice involving a variety of environmental and property damage disputes, both inside and outside the energy industry. Additionally, Rob has represented energy and other regulated utilities before state agencies, such as the Oklahoma Corporation Commission and the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality.
Besides handling a variety of energy-related matters, Rob’s experience includes overseeing litigation of commercial loan disputes and complex mortgage foreclosures, as well as defense of secured lenders and financial institutions against lender liability and tort claims.
Rob has served on GableGotwals’ board of directors for over 10 years, where he has been actively involved and instrumental in the growth of the firm as it has expanded across Oklahoma and Texas.
Rob’s recent experience includes:
- Successful defense of major energy company in two-week state court jury trial in which qui tam plaintiffs sought judgment of over $20 million. Obtained judgment in excess of $20 million for major energy company in federal court trial for breach of oil and gas asset purchase and sale agreement.
- Obtained final order from federal court after five-day evidentiary hearing denying class certification on behalf of a putative class of thousands of royalty owners against an operator for alleged underpayment of natural gas royalties.
- Environmental litigation involving historical oil and gas exploration and production sites, as well as midstream and downstream pipeline, processing, and refining facilities.
- Complex commercial foreclosures, defense of lender liability claims and litigation and resolution of related bankruptcy and insolvency issues.
- Litigation of disputes involving a variety of natural gas and other midstream contracts.
